Robotech: Battlecry
Xbox
Vicious Cycle / TDK
If you are a fan of Robotech,
don't bother reading the review, just buy the game now! The game is true
to the series and feels like Robotech. It sounds like the show with the same
music and sound effects. It looks a bit different. Its graphics are actually
more cartoonish than the show due to the cellshading. For those of you that
don't know anything about Robotech, you control a Veritech, a jet that can
turn in to a Robot and a mode in between called a Guardian. The game is a
solid action game that only has a few irksome flaws. There is a sniper mode
that is nearly useless, it takes two or three shots to take down the enemies,
and once you shoot them they will come for you. The sniper wasn't in the
show and was probably added since there is no freelook or dumbfire. The game
can get repetitive with all the defense missions, but it makes sense because
you are a member of the Robotech Defense Force. The game will keep you occupied
for a while with several items to unlock, new mecha, skins, and multiplayer
maps. The multiplayer mode is often overlooked or underapprecated. It can
get old fast, but it is fun. You and one friend get to dogfight with any
unlocked mecha.
