Chaos 2580
by Cabal
Chaos 2580 is story of an interstellar war between humans and mutants. It focuses on Private Blake Freeman of the United Terra Forces or UTF. Please note this an abandoned project, due to lack of interest on my part and the audience. It was written long long ago, so pardon any grammatical errors and such. If you want to see this story continued, let me know on the forum.
Chapter 1: Tactical Disadvantage
I hate the endless desert on Xanrath. This dust ball seems so insignificant
from space, but I'm told it has great strategic value in our war against the mutant
freaks. I believe we should just bomb this miserable planet until all the freakers
die, but what do I know, I'm just a grunt in an interstellar war.
Oh great, here
comes that God damn idiot, Rogers. Private Jake Rogers has been in service for six
months since training and has jet to do anything half way intelligent. Everyone
always has to save his lousy ass. I figured he came to tell me what he thought
was important.
"Freeman, I think I found something!" Rogers said in his annoying voice.
"What the Hell did you find?" I demanded.
"I don't know..." he replied.
"Then it isn't important," I cut him off with.
"No, you must see it," he wined.
Regretfully I followed him to sand dune with black metallic surface on the top. I walked up to the surface to examine it, but as I bent down for a closer look, I got tossed back a few hundred feet. As I climbed to my feet I hear Rogers scream and pulse rife fire. Then I saw it. A giant metallic looking bug standing about a hundred feet tall, firing some sort of acid in my direction. I quickly rolled to the left, readied by pulse rife, and emptied a few rounds into the beast's side. I proceeded to get to my feet and threw a plasma grenade at the bug. 5... 4... 3... 2...
1... Bang! Splatter.
Now that the bug is gone I started to search for Rogers. He didn't get far, as he ran from the bug he didn't know I blew the thing up, and a nice large chunk of carapace landed on him. I pushed the bug off him and helped him to his feet.
"You stupid coward, I told you that it wasn't important, being curious is hazardous to your health. You're lucky I'm with you, if I hadn't killed that fucking bug, it would have eaten you by now," I shouted in his face, "From now on you stay next to me and don't stray because of your curiosity. Next time I won't save you."
"Sure thing boss," he replied.
Without warning I started back on path to the waypoint that's supposed to be the location of a military outpost. I glanced back and saw Rogers running to catch up to me. I walked for what seemed like hours with Roger following me through the desert, until we finally reached the waypoint. I climbed up onto a large dune nearby to get a better look at my surroundings. There it was, the outpost. Wait, it was too large to be an outpost, it was a full scale base! Well I always knew military intelligence was a contradiction.
I pulled out my binoculars to examine the bases defenses; twenty riflemen,
at least two bazooka men, and several unmanned hover tanks. I put away the binoculars
and looked to see what Rogers was doing. He was standing directly in the line of
site of one of the perimeter guards, but before I could do anything the alarm
sounded. Rogers started to fire at the guard, but never hit him.
Since I had yet to be seen I sniped the guard. I continued to take down
guards, until I realized I had been spotted due to bullets hitting the ground near
by. God I'm lucky.
I ducked behind a small hill nearby, but as I came back up I saw Rogers
torn to pieces by machine gun fire. Blood flew every where. What a mess!
I activated by comm-system and ordered a emergency EVAC. When I was done
with the transmission I noticed some of the tanks activated. They must have thought
there was more than two of us. Since they were looking for a army instead of a man,
I creep behind objects and avoided the freaks on my way up to one of the tanks. I
hopped inside and powered up and tried to cause as much collateral damage as
possible before I left to go to the EVAC point. Only it wasn't as easy as I hoped,
I was followed by a hover tank. Luckily he couldn't hit worth shit. He was able to hit
me once and damage the engine before I blew him to kingdom come.
My savior arrived a drop ship piloted by Jan Hasewaga. I got out of the tank
and ran into the ship strapped in and took a much deserved rest...
Chapter 2: Random Thoughts
I heard the sounds of the ship landing, we're at Space Station Wyoming. Home,
sweet home. I got up and walked out into the landing bay and made my way to the exit. I
stepped though the door into the fake world.
I never got used to the way these space
stations are set up. They have fake plants, fake parks, and even a fake sky. If I'm
on a space station I want to know I'm on a station, not this earthbound impression.
First, I had to
report to the barracks and get out of this combat armor, then report to debriefing.
At the barracks I found the entire squad inside. Lt. Jessica Walker, Sgt.
Lars Volker, Corporal Yuri Kukov, Pvt. Melissa Parker, our Medic, Pvt. Michael
Denton, resident tech head, Pvt. Carlos Rodrigez, the young hothead and me, Pvt.
Blake Freeman.
"Blake is back!" yelled Parker as she saw me.
"Were's Rogers?" asked Walker.
"He died. The freaks got him, but it was his fault. He attacked one of the
base's guards alone. Intel was wrong again, it was a large base, not an outpost. There
was no chance of us both coming back," I told the group.
"That's not acceptable soldier!" Volker screamed. He always cracked down on
privates like it was boot camp.
"Simmer down Volker," Walker ordered.
"Who cared about Rogers, anyways?" Rodrigez said.
"He was a soldier and part of the squad." Yuri snapped.
"Well at least you survived," Parker said.
"Why's Denton so quiet?" I asked as I removed my armor.
Denton replied, "Working, unlike most of these guys. I've been trying to see if
I could get this XR-14 to generate less heat so we could us them on desert missions."
The XR-14 is a microwave gun, it cooks the enemy from the inside out. Its
downfalls are that it can't be used underwater, unless you want to cook yourself, or
in very hot conditions, because it'll overload and explode in your face. That's way I
was stuck with only a BW-16 pulse rife and frag grenades on the last mission.
I left my weapon and armor at the barracks and told everyone goodbye as I left
to go to debriefing. When I arrived at debriefing, I told them the story of what
happened back on Xanrath. They gave me several complaints on how Rodgers died, but I
couldn't help it, and they wouldn't listen.
I left, and I wondered why I joined the army in the first place. I was
a patriotic idiot when I joined, I thought it was for the good of the Human Commonwealth.
After some time in battle, I realized that even though I hate it, if we lose, all humans
will be killed or enslaved. No one is really sure about anything about these mutant
freaks we're at war with. Most believe they are left over experiments from World
War III.
The war started as a small conflict between the United States of America and
the People's Republic of China. America was losing in the war due to the cutbacks in
the military's funding and lack of recruits. To make things worse, China was working
on "unethical" experiments, involving cloning and other genetic manipulation. Many
of these "experiments" were used in battle, but their human experiments never saw
battle. We only know of them because of the scientists' journals. That war was
devastating!
I wonder what would have happened if the US had won. We probably would
still be under the control of the Illuminati, some people knew of them, but most
dismissed them as crazy. But, they were right. With the US about to collapse from
the ravages of fighting China, FEMA declared marshal law, which suspended the
Constitution. All dissidents were transported to FEMA death camps. The Illuminati then
reactivated the "Star Wars" laser in space and fired it at all major cities and
capitals around the world. Illuminati nano-augmented warriors spewed forth from Area
51.
They set up a satanic totalitarian communist world order. There government
lasted for 100 years before the resistance fighters were able to remove the rich
Illuminati government officials and turn the world around. The next
50 years was a dark period, before the Universal Coalition of Planets was formed
and most of Earth was abandoned. Damn, I've been rambling again.
